Taco Bell® Metaverse Wedding Contest Official Rules



The Taco Bell® Metaverse Wedding Contest (“Contest”) begins at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time ("ET") on August 25, 2022 and ends at 11:59 p.m. ET on September 6, 2022 ("Contest Period").


The Contest is open to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia who are twenty-one (21) years of age or older as of date of entry, who are unmarried, in a committed relationship, meet the requirements for marriage in the State of Utah, and want to get married via a secular virtual wedding ceremony and reception in the online Decentraland metaverse and a legal wedding a short time thereafter over live video link pursuant to the laws of Utah County over a video link with Taco Bell in November 2022 (“Entrant”). Employees, officers, directors of Taco Bell Corp. (“Sponsor”), Don Jagoda Associates, Inc. (“Administrator”), and each of their respective parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, retailers, advertising and promotion agencies and judging organizations (collectively with Sponsor and Administrator, the “Contest Parties”), as well as their immediate family members (spouses, parents, children and siblings) and/or persons living under the same household are not eligible to enter. This Contest shall be construed and evaluated solely according to United States law and subject to federal, state and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited. By entering, entrants agree to comply with these Official Rules, including, without limitation, all eligibility requirements.


You must create a video detailing: 1) the unique and interesting love story between you and your significant other (who must also meet all of the eligibility criteria for entrants set forth herein (“significant other”)); 2) why you and your significant other want to be married in the metaverse; and 3) your passion for Taco Bell as a brand (“Video”). You can post that video via social media on either Instagram, Tik Tok or Twitter with the hashtag #TacoBellMetaverseWeddingContest and tagging @tacobell. To enter the Contest, you must visit tacobell.com/metaverse-wedding (the “Website”) and follow the instructions to complete all required fields of the on-screen registration form. In addition to completing the registration form, if you uploaded your Video to Instagram, Tik Tok, or Twitter, you must provide the direct link to your Video (and not the link to your Instagram, Tik Tok or Twitter account which displays all of your posts) or you can upload your Video directly to the Website to receive one (1) entry into the Contest (“Entry”). Limit one (1) Entry per person/email address for the entire Contest Period. All Entries must comply with the Entry Requirements set forth in Section 4 below. All Entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. ET on September 6, 2022. The person uploading the Entry on the Website will be deemed the Entrant and to whom the prize will be awarded if determined a Prize winner. Entry must not be less than thirty (30) seconds or exceed two (2) minutes and must be in English. Duplicate or multiple Entries from the same person/email address are not permitted and will be automatically eliminated. By entering, the Entrant agrees fully and unconditionally to these Official Rules and Sponsor’s decisions thereunder, which are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest. If you post your Video on Instagram, you must have a non-private Instagram account and have your account privacy setting set to “Off”. An Instagram account can be opened for free by downloading the Instagram application from the Apple store or Google Play. Instagram Entries must comply with Instagram Terms of Use (https://instagram.com/about/legal/terms/). If you post your Video on Tik Tok, you must have a TikTok account. If you do not have a TikTok account, and you would like to create one for free, visit TikTok.com or download the free TikTok app to your mobile device at either the Apple® App Store or the Google® Play store. TikTok Entries must comply with the TikTok Terms of Service (https://www.tiktok.com/legal/terms-of-service-us?lang=en). If you post your Video on Twitter, you must have a public Twitter account to enter and have your account privacy setting set to “Off”. If you do not have a Twitter account, and you would like to create one for free, download the free Twitter app to your mobile device at either the Apple® App Store or the Google® Play store. Use of Twitter will be subject to Twitter’s privacy policy and terms of service, which are available at: https://twitter.com/en/privacy and https://twitter.com/en/tos. Entrants may be required to show proof of being the authorized account holder of the email address account associated with the Entry. If there is a dispute as to the identity of an Entrant, the Entrant will be deemed the authorized account holder of the email address account submitted at the time of Entry. “Authorized account holder” of an email Address account is defined as the person who manages the e-mail address associated with the account. Any Entry not in compliance with the above and which does not meet the other requirements of these Official Rules may be disqualified as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion. Entrants may be subject to disqualification if Sponsor discovers that multiple accounts are used by the same person. As applicable, normal Internet/phone access and usage/data charges imposed by Entrants’ online/mobile service will apply. Entrant’s continued eligibility for any prize described herein is subject to Entrant’s continuous compliance with these Official Rules, including but not limited to all content moderation and licensing requirements described below. Determinations as to whether Entrant has maintained continuous compliance will be made by Sponsor in its sole discretion.


Automated Entries, regardless of method of submission, are prohibited, and any use of such automated devices will cause disqualification. All Entries become the property of Sponsor and will not be returned, and Sponsor will not verify receipt of Entries. Normal Internet and/or mobile device access and usage charges imposed by Entrant’s online and/or mobile service will apply and are Entrant’s sole responsibility. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, corrupted, incomplete or damaged Entries. Proof of submission is not proof of receipt by Sponsor. By entering, you understand that your Entry, in its entirety or any portion thereof, may (in Sponsor’s sole discretion) be posted on the Sponsor’s websites and/or used in other Sponsor-selected media, including, without limitation, for advertising and promotional purposes, and may be posted on other non-affiliated websites.


  • Entries must be the sole, original work of the Entrant.

  • Entrants may not copy or otherwise plagiarize any portion of the Entry from any other source. Modifying, enhancing or altering a third party's pre-existing work does not qualify as an original work. Entries must not have been submitted in any other competition.

  • Entrant must own all rights in and to the Entry.

  • Entries must be in keeping with Sponsor’s image.

  • Entry may not contain any persons other than the Entrant and their significant other. By entering, Entrant warrants and represents that Entrant has the permission from their significant other to include their significant other in the Entry.

  • Entry may not contain obscene, profane, lewd, defamatory or inappropriate content; and may not include any nudity or violence or illegal or dangerous activities (or references thereto), as determined in Sponsor’s sole discretion.

  • Entries may not contain any third-party materials that violate or infringe (or may, in Sponsor’s sole discretion, be at risk of infringing) any third-party rights, including, without limitation, copyright, trademark rights, privacy rights (including portrayal in a false light), publicity rights, or other intellectual property rights.

  • Entries may not contain brand names (other than Taco Bell) or other personal or proprietary materials of any entity or person living or deceased.

  • Entries may not contain music.

  • Entries cannot depict, and cannot itself be, in violation of any law.

All Entries must comply with these Official Rules and the registration instructions, as determined in Sponsor’s sole discretion, to be eligible. In such an event, the Entry may be disqualified from the Contest. Sponsor has the sole discretion to determine whether an Entry qualifies as an Entry. By entering, Entrant agrees to waive any rights Entrant may have to the Entry submitted. Entrants and their significant others must be eligible to be married in Utah, must be able to apply for, and must provide all information required to get, a marriage license in Utah County (including, but not limited to: name, address, Social Security number, date and place of birth, names and place of birth of their parents, and provide photo ID), sign an affidavit and be willing to sign a Declaration of Eligibility, Liability/Publicity Release (where legal), Assignment of Rights, and any other documents required by Sponsor. Entrant and their significant other must agree to get legally married and participate in the Metaverse Wedding (as hereafter defined) and Legal Wedding (as hereafter defined) on a date designated by Sponsor and must agree that the Wedding (as hereafter defined) will be conducted by an officiant that is selected by Sponsor. By entering, Entrant is attesting that both Entrant and Entrant’s significant other have devices that contain a working and functional camera, microphone and access to high-speed internet.


By submitting an Entry, Entrant and Entrant’s significant other hereby grant the Contest Parties the irrevocable, perpetual, royalty free, worldwide rights to use, reproduce, publish, edit, market, store, adapt, assign, sell, dispose of, distribute, have distributed, publicly and privately display, communicate, publicly and privately perform, transmit, have transmitted, create derivative works based upon, and promote the Entry or excerpts of the Entry (as such may be edited and modified by the Sponsor in its discretion) and, if selected as the winner, any footage, audio, and/or video content produced or taken from the Metaverse Wedding and/or the Legal Wedding as well as the planning meetings, rehearsals, and/or interviews with the couple prior to or after the Wedding, for editorial, advertising, commercial, promotional and all other purposes (including, without limitation, posting on Sponsor-affiliated websites, and/or other Sponsor-selected media) in any form, media or technology now known or later developed. By submitting an Entry, Entrant and Entrant’s significant further other hereby grant the Contest Parties the irrevocable, perpetual, royalty free, worldwide rights to use, reproduce, publish, distribute, display, perform, transmit, and promote Entrant’s and Entrant’s significant other’s name(s), biographical information, and/or likeness(es) in connection with the uses described or contemplated herein. If requested, Entrant and Entrant’s significant other will sign any documentation that may be required for the Contest Parties to make use of the rights herein granted.


All submitted Entries will be judged by the Sponsor and the Administrator to determine one (1) Prize winner (subject to verification and compliance with these Official Rules), based on the following judging criteria:

  • 30% - Originality/creativity of Entry;

  • 30% - Personality and uniqueness of story;

  • 30% - Relevance to theme; and

  • 10% - Passion for the Taco Bell brand.

Sponsor/Administrators’ decisions are final with respect to all matters relating to the Contest. By participating, Entrants agree to the decisions of the judges, which shall be final and binding in all respects. No information regarding Entries or judging will be disclosed to any third party not involved in the conduct of the Contest. In the event of a tie, all tied Entries will be judged 50% on originality/creativity of entry and 50% personality and uniqueness of story to determine the winner.


On or about September 15, 2022, the one (1) potential winner will be contacted via email and/or phone. The potential Prize winner and their significant other will be required to execute and return, separately via email, a Declaration of Eligibility, Liability/Publicity Release (where legal), Assignment of Rights, and any other documents required by Sponsor within 72 hours of notification or the potential Prize winner will be disqualified. If winner notification is returned as non-deliverable, or if a potential Prize winner/significant other fails to return the required verification documents within the required time frame, said potential Prize winner will be disqualified and an alternate may be determined, time permitting. If a potential Prize winner and their significant other are not able or willing to participate in the Metaverse Wedding and Legal Wedding on the date designated by Sponsor in November 2022, potential Prize winner will be disqualified and time permitting, an alternate winner will be determined. If a potential Prize winner is found to be ineligible or if winner does not comply with the Official Rules, said potential Prize winner will be disqualified. If a potential Prize winner is disqualified for one of the reasons mentioned above, an alternate will be determined in the same manner for the applicable winner as described above, time permitting. Acceptance of a Prize constitutes permission for Contest Parties to use winner’s name, Entry, Video, biographical information, and likeness and all Footage for promotional and other purposes in any and all media throughout the universe in perpetuity without further compensation except where prohibited by law. Sponsor reserves the right to conduct a background check on the Prize winner and their significant other and Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any Entrant based on the results of such background check, if Sponsor determines in its sole discretion that awarding the prize to such Entrant might reflect negatively on Sponsor. Factors that will result in disqualification as an Entrant include, without limitation, Entrant or their significant other are not eligible to get married in Utah, are not willing to participate in the planning process of the Wedding, are not willing to have a virtual wedding in the metaverse and attend the ceremony and reception of the Wedding, and/or are not willing or able to obtain a marriage license or be legally married to their significant other in the State of Utah, or any Entrant or their significant other having been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor, being delinquent on a government ordered payment, such as child support, spousal support, alimony, tax payments, etc.


Prize (1 total): A wedding package, which includes:

  • A marriage certificate memento NFT.

  • Payment for an online Utah County marriage license.

  • A metaverse wedding ceremony and reception in a Sponsor-designated location/environment on the Decentraland online platform, the details, dates, times, and length of which shall be designated by Sponsor in Sponsor’s sole discretion (the “Metaverse Wedding”).

  • Logistics advice for the legal wedding to take place via live video link during (or adjacent to) the Metaverse Wedding (the “Legal Wedding”). The Metaverse Wedding and the Legal Wedding are referred to herein as the “Wedding”.

  • A personal liaison that will help plan logistics and customizations of the Metaverse Wedding.

  • A custom NFT invitation to the Metaverse Wedding (with limits on the number of guests determined in Sponsor’s sole discretion).

  • Virtual custom wedding attire

  • An officiant for the Legal Wedding.

The maximum ARV of the Prize is: $599. Winner and Winner’s significant other will be required to obtain marriage license in Utah County, Utah (which can be obtained online), participate in the planning of the Wedding, attend rehearsals as required by Sponsor, and participate in the Metaverse Wedding and reception and Legal Wedding as directed by Sponsor, which will take place on a Sponsor-specified date in November 2022.

Prize Restrictions and Requirements: Winner and the Winner’s significant other will need to obtain a legally binding Utah marriage license from the Marriage License Office of Utah County for a remote wedding and any other required documents prior to the Wedding. Winner and Winner’s significant other agree to participate in all aspects of both the Legal Wedding and the Metaverse Wedding. Winner, significant other, and all Metaverse Wedding guests will need to create an avatar on the Decentraland platform. The Wedding will be hosted virtually and Winner, Winner’s significant other and guests will all attend remotely; no travel will be included with the prize. The Wedding will take place on Sponsor-specified date in November 2022. All Prize details are in Sponsor’s sole discretion. A virtual wallet may be required. If you do not already have a virtual wallet prior to being selected as a potential winner, the Sponsor may ask you to open a virtual wallet account. The Metaverse Wedding shall be subject to the Decentraland Foundation Terms of Use available at decentraland.org/terms. The Wedding will be secular and will be scripted as determined by Sponsor in Sponsor’s discretion. Winner must designate two (2) witnesses to attend the Legal Wedding and each witness must meet the eligibility requirements applicable to an Entrant as set forth herein. Sponsor will determine, in Sponsor’s sole discretion, which portions of the Wedding guests will be able to view and/or hear. Sponsor will have creative control over all aspects of the Wedding.

Prize cannot be substituted, assigned, transferred, or redeemed for cash; however, Sponsor reserves the right to make equivalent prize substitutions at its sole discretion if any advertised prize (or portion of prize) becomes unavailable. Winner is responsible for any loss of prize or portion of prize after it has been delivered. Sponsor will not replace any lost or stolen prize components. Any and all applicable federal, state, and local taxes and all fees and expenses related to acceptance and use of prize not specifically stated herein are the sole responsibility of the prize winner. Prize winner will be issued a 1099 tax form for the actual retail value of prize.

Significant other of Prize winner must be 21 years of age or older and a legal resident of the 50 United States or District of Columbia at time of the Wedding. The winning couple and their guests agree to be filmed and photographed for the entire duration of the Wedding (“Footage”). The winning couple and their guests may be required to sign a photo and video release form granting full global rights usage in perpetuity to Sponsor for all digital and print promotion including but not limited to website, social media, email marketing, video, advertising and promotions, in Sponsor’s sole discretion.

In accepting one or more NFTs as an element of the prize, winner understands and agrees that: (1) neither Sponsor nor any of the Contest Parties can ensure NFTs will work as intended and no support by Sponsor nor any Contest Parties is offered or will be provided for any NFTs awarded hereunder; (2) NFTs are only available in digital form; (3) winner has no rights, interest or title in or to the underlying content (including but not limited to artwork, trademarks, tradenames, colors, etc.) displayed through or associated with the NFT; (4) winner warrants that winner will comply with all terms and conditions set forth in the smart contract associated with the NFT(s) (“Smart Contract”); (5) as a general matter, NFTs are highly speculative and volatile assets that are subject to significant changes in value and, as such, the approximate retail value set forth above represents Sponsor’s good faith determination of the NFT as of the indicated date and time; (6) to accept an NFT as a prize (or as an element of prize), winner must create a virtual wallet at the winner’s sole expense and assume any and all liability as to the safekeeping of the NFT(s) in such virtual wallet; (7) WINNER ACCEPTS NFT(S) AS IS, WITH NO REPRESENTATION, WARRANTY OR GUARANTEE OF ANY KIND BY CONTEST PARTIES AS TO THE VALUE OR USE OF NFT(S). WINNER ASSUMES ANY AND ALL RISK OF ILLIQUIDITY, INACCESSBILITY, DECLINE IN VALUE, LOSS OR THEFT OF NFT(S); SHOULD ANY OF THE FOREGOING OCCUR, CONTEST PARTIES SHALL NOT HAVE ANY LIABILITY OF ANY KIND UNDER ANY LEGAL THEORY; (8) if winner transfers any NFT(s), the winner will ensure the NFT remains subject to the Smart Contract; and (9) any commercial exploitation of the NFT by winner could subject winner to claims of copyright infringement or trademark infringement.

In the event Prize winning couple or any guest engages in behavior during the Wedding that (as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion) is obnoxious or threatening, illegal, or that is intended to threaten or harass any other person, or that in any way disparages or adversely affects the reputation, image, and/or customer goodwill of Sponsor or any of Sponsor’s services, products, trademarks, service marks, or logos, Sponsor reserves the right to terminate the Wedding early or eject them from the Wedding with no further obligations or compensation whatsoever to Prize winner/significant other and/or guest(s) (which may, in Sponsor’s sole discretion, result in that Prize winner’s disqualification from the Contest and forfeiture of any [and/or all] prizes. In the event the winning couple or guest engages in behavior during the Wedding that (as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion) is illegal, tortious, or subjects that Prize winner or guest to arrest or detention, Sponsor shall have no obligation to pay any damages, fees, fines, judgments or other costs or expenses of any kind whatsoever incurred by winning couple or guest as a result of such conduct. SPONSOR SHALL HAVE NO LIABILITY FOR ANY PERSONAL INJURIES, DEATH, PROPERTY DAMAGE, OR OTHER DAMAGES OR EXPENSES RESULTING FROM OR ARISING OUT OF ANY PRIZE RELATED TO THE PRIZE OR ANY OTHER ASPECT OF WINNING COUPLE’S OR ANY GUEST’S ACCEPTANCE OR USE OF THE PRIZE/ATTENDANCE AT THE WEDDING.


By participating in this Contest, each Entrant and significant other agree to be bound by these Official Rules and instructions and by all decisions of the Contest Parties, which are final and legally binding in all matters relating to this Contest. By participating, Entrants and Prize winner agree to release, discharge, indemnify and hold harmless the Contest Parties, Meta Platforms, Inc., Twitter, Inc., ByteDance Ltd., and Decentraland Foundation and their respective parents, affiliates, agents, officers, directors, and employees from and against any claims, damages, or liability due to any damages, or losses or injuries to any person (including death) or property of any kind resulting, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from acceptance, possession, misuse or use of a prize or participation in any Contest-related activity or participation in this Contest. Entrants further agree not to pursue any right, claim or action against the Contest Parties in connection with their participation in this Contest. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, or misdirected entries, technical hardware/software failures of any kind, lost/unavailable network connections, or failed/incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmission, which may limit a user’s ability to participate. Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual that tampers or attempts to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or Website; violates these Official Rules; or acts in a disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT OR ANY OTHER INDIVIDUAL TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEBSITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE; SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH INDIVIDUAL TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW. Participants hereby disclaim any rights, including any copyright or any other intellectual property right, in or to the Entry following the assignment contemplated hereby. Sponsor and its agencies are not responsible for technical, hardware or software malfunctions, telephone failures of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, or failed, incorrect, inaccurate, incomplete, garbled or delayed electronic communications whether caused by the sender or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in this Contest which may limit the ability of an individual to participate in or accept a prize in the Contest, or by any human error which may occur in the processing of the Entries in this Contest. Sponsor and its agencies are not responsible for any typographical error in the printing of these Official Rules, administration of the Contest or in the announcement of the prize. Sponsor and its agencies are not responsible for damages to user’s system occasioned by participating in the Contest or downloading any information to participate in the Contest. Sponsor reserves the right to modify or cancel any of the portions of the Contest if they become technically corrupted. Sponsor would judge the Entries from among all applicable eligible Entries received prior to cancellation.


By entering this Contest, Entrants agree that 1) Any and all disputes, claims, and of action arising out of or connected with the Contest or the prize shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action; 2) Any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, and shall not include any punitive, consequential or other damages, including costs associated with entering the Contest but in no event include attorneys' fees; and 3) Under no circumstances will any Entrant be permitted to obtain any award for, and Entrant hereby waives all rights to claim punitive, incidental or consequential damages and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased. All dispute resolution shall be made by the Sponsor in its sole discretion. These Official Rules shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions that would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the state of California. Any legal proceedings arising out of this Contest or relating to these Official Rules shall be instituted only in the federal or state courts located in the state of California, and the parties consent to jurisdiction therein with respect to any legal proceedings or disputes of whatever nature arising under or relating to these Official Rules.
