A Happy Accident
Workplace accidents are a big deal, even at a place like Taco Bell®. The Meximelt® however, was that happy accident. Or was it an accident?
For instance, there was this one time when our chefs were working on a new kind of soft taco with seasoned beef, freshly prepared pico de gallo, and three cheese blend. But, apparently one of them handed the design and initial framework to an intern, but the intern had his headphones on and somehow heard “quesadilla” instead of soft taco. Story has it that the intern was rocking out to a Feed the Beat artist at the time, so we kind of get it. Quesadilla and taco totally sounds similar. Simple mistake. Or was it? The next thing you know, he had steamed and flattened the soft taco, creating the first ever Meximelt®.Depending on who you ask in the Taco Bell® office, the story has some very different versions. Aside from the version that the intern was wearing headphones and genuinely made the “mistake” some people say it was completely intentional. Some also say the intern wasn’t even wearing headphones but instead heard the chef loud and clear that it was a new taco. But you want to know what the intern said? He said he liked quesadillas more. So he decided to go rogue one day and grill the “taco”. Turns out it was a pretty good risk he took because now look at you. You’re here reading all about it and you’re probably thinking about ordering the Meximelt® too. We don’t blame you.Ever since the Meximelt® incident, we guess there’s this rule now that all Taco Bell interns are required to wear headphones in the kitchen at all times. However, we can neither confirm nor deny this claim. So here’s hoping we get another delicious workplace accident again soon. Or another completely, deliberate, rogue idea.
