How My Leap Of Faith Paid Off – You're Next!

Hear from VP of Ops, Blake.

In case you missed my last post, I briefly touched on my career decision to shift industries, celebrated my one-year Taco Bell anniversary during LGBTQIA+ Pride month, and emphasized how excited I was to be a part of this brand and all the amazing work we are doing in our restaurants. I have to say, though, that finding the courage to leave a company after so many years wasn’t easy. Would I be able to start over? How would it feel not knowing everything? I hadn’t been the ‘new’ guy in a very long time. What would that feel like? Look... of course, I was worried. Who wouldn’t be? But when the possibility, and, eventually the opportunity, to work for an amazing brand like Taco Bell became a reality, it made taking that ‘leap’ a whole lot easier! So, I encourage anyone else who might be contemplating a career change to consider Taco Bell and the opportunity to Live Más!

Here’s why:

As I was considering making a move, it was important to me, first and foremost, that I find a company that had an amazing team culture. I also wanted to land at a brand that really meant something to the people. I wanted to join a company where there was incredible opportunity for every team member to maximize their potential. I wanted to be a part of a business that was aggressively growing sales and profit but still had significant runway for even more growth ahead. Finally, when the time came… I was ready to be uncomfortable again, as I know I am at my best when I am learning. Taco Bell checked all those boxes and more!

At The Bell, the culture is unmatched! It’s that simple… the brand and our incredible franchisees provide team members with the tools and opportunities to further their education and pave the way for career growth. From opportunities like the Taco Bell Business School and Golden Bell, to partnering with the Taco Bell Foundation to promote Live Más Scholarships and the Ambition Accelerator, team members have every opportunity to maximize their true potential, which is exactly what I was looking for! The Bell celebrates differences and brings out the best in each team member and its customers. With 8,500+ restaurants and counting around the world, Taco Bell continues to grow its sales and profits, with the key ingredient being the people. To my surprise, this brand has taken the discomfort that comes with starting a new role, set it aside, and presented a culture where we all can learn with a smile on our faces and a taco in our hands!

Bottom line… coming into the QSR industry with a brand like Taco Bell has significantly broadened my perspective around the opportunities that exist for someone like me who is a ‘born and raised’ operator. When you are thinking about leaving one industry and jumping to another, at times, it is hard to envision the skills you possess being transferable. But let me tell you something, they are! All it takes is a taco (or three) and a leap of faith! Do it. You won’t regret it!
